Cooking mushrooms can be very tricky due to the excess water it produces during the cooking. This garlic butter sautéed mushroom recipe is my favourite as it is a basic way of cooking mushrooms which overcomes that excess water problem and makes the mushrooms so tasty and juicy.

Using garlic, butter and lemon in this sautéed mushrooms give it an excellent taste which you will love. I am sure this sautéed mushroom recipe will be your go-to way of cooking mushrooms.

How to Make This Simple Sauteed Mushroom Recipe?

Firstly, I prefer to clean the mushrooms with a wet kitchen towel before I cook them. Then add butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Once the butter melts, I add the minced garlic, mushrooms, salt, pepper and thyme then cook for about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.

When the mushroom fully cooked and has that beautiful brown colour turn off the heat. After that pour the lemon juice over it and garnish with some thyme or chopped parsley. Finally serve.

    Tips and Variations

    • You may add some dried herbs such as basil, sage or rosemary.
    • Use any kind of mushroom you like Portobello, Oyster or White button.
    • Slice it and use it as a burger or steak topping.
    • Add some veggies such as asparagus, green beans or broccoli.
    • You can add a few drops of soy sauce to add extra flavour to this side dish.

Why using both butter and olive oil?

I use olive oil with butter not only for a good flavour but also to not make the butter burn while cooking the mushrooms.

Which mushroom size should I use?

Actually, it doesn't matter which size you use. I prefer to use a medium to small size in this recipe. If you use bigger size mushrooms, you may need to slice them; to cook well and mix them nicely with the garlic and spices.
