Cut the toast into 5 strips, put them on a baking sheet and bake for 5-10 minutes. As soon as you take them out of the oven, brush them with butter and set them aside.

In the meantime, boil the eggs for 4-5 minutes, then remove them and put them in a bowl filled with cold water to stop the cooking process.

Now, use the back of a spoon to crack the top of the egg and take it off.
Sprinkle salt and ground black pepper into the egg yolk (optional).
Serve it with the soldiers.

My secret to perfect soft-boiled eggs is to use eggs at room temperature. I always take my eggs out of the fridge 20 minutes before boiling them which will cook them evenly and prevent any cracking.
Make a small prick using a pin at the rounded end of the shell before boiling the eggs. This lets the steam escape, which prevents the eggs from cracking.
Larger eggs take longer to boil. Thus, add a minute extra to the timer when putting them to boil.
