This VERY basic French toast recipe is made for 2 persons in less than 10 minutes with basic ingredients. Bread soaked in a mixture of egg and milk with a hint of cinnamon and toasted in butter until golden brown. YUM!
In a mixing bowl, whisk egg, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract and milk well.
1 cup milk, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 large eggs
Heat a frying pan on medium-low heat, and add 1 tablespoon of the butter.
2 tablespoon butter
Dunk one toast slice in the milk mixture (both sides), then place it in the pan over the melted butter and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
6 slices bread
Repeat until finish all toast; add more butter to cook the rest of the toast. Serve with butter and fresh fruit.
1 teaspoon Butter, Strawberries, Raspberries
Notes
Use the right ratio of milk to eggs; too many eggs will lead to eggy bread, while too much milk will lead to mushy bread.
For best results, use old bread or stale bread. Stale bread absorbs the egg custard better than fresh bread.
Don't cook on high heat. Cooking on high heat will lead to burning the bread from the outside while still soggy from the inside.
Soak the bread long enough to absorb the egg mixture.
