    Quick Candied Lemon Slices

    Candied lemon slices are thin lemon slices that have been cooked in sugar and then dried out. Don't worry; this process of candying lemons is so quick and easy. You can use them to decorate any dessert or enjoy them as a sweet snack.

    Candied lemon slices are delicious, easy to make snacks or garnish to decorate your baked desserts. Learn how to transform an ordinary lemon with a little bit of cooking magic into delightful candy. 

    I love these lemon slices so much; sometimes I just put one in my tea instead of sugar, it makes the tea so good. I even dip the slices in chocolate and eat them as a sweet treat. They are so pleasant to look at and delicious to eat.

    To make these candied lemons, you will only need the three ingredients below:

    • Lemons sliced to ⅛-inch thickness
    • Granulated sugar
    • Water

    How do you make Candied Lemon Slices for cake decorating?

    • Cut the lemons into ⅛-inch thickness.
    • In a saucepan, add water and sugar on medium-low heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
    • Add lemon slices and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the lemon slices become slightly translucent (try to keep the lemon slices in one layer).
    • Turn off the heat and place the lemon slices on a single layer on a wire rack.
    • Let the lemon slices cool down for about 1-2 hours. Then cover them and put them in the fridge.

    Top Tips:

    • Feel free to use this recipe to candy other citruses such as orange and grapefruit.
    • If your syrup becomes too thick while simmering, feel free to add more water to thin it out.
    • Let these candied lemon slices sit at room temperature for a whole day before storing them.
    • You need to slice the lemon as thin as possible. You can either use a mandoline or a sharp knife. If the lemon slices are too thick, they will take too much time to cook.
    • If you don't like the lemon slices to be sticky, coat them with some sugar.
    • Don't get rid of the rest of the lemon syrup; save it in a jar; it makes a great addition to a cup of tea or lemonade.

    Making a healthier version of candied lemon slices

    • In this case, replace sugar with honey, and because honey is sweeter than sugar, we will use only half a cup of honey. To make this lemon candy using honey, follow the instructions below:
    • Heat half a cup of honey and 3 tablespoon of lemon juice in a skillet on medium heat.
    • Add the lemon slices and cook for 5-8minutes, then flip to the other side and cook for another 5 minutes. Simmer until peel is tender.
    • Leave the lemon slices to cool and dry on a wire rack.
