    Peanut Sesame Noodles Recipe

This sesame noodles recipe with lovely ginger, garlic and peanut butter is a delicious Chinese side dish that will be ready in less than 20 minutes. This dish is so easy to make, flavourful and way better than Chinese take-away. It is perfect for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients Used in Making Peanut Butter and Sesame Noodles

    • Thin spaghetti: This recipe uses thin spaghetti that is made of wheat flour, which works great with the sauce. They are very thin and have a chewy texture when made al dente. You can use lo mein noodles instead.
    • Soy sauce: Make sure to use soy sauce that has less sodium content.
    • Sesame oil: Adds extra flavour to the noodles. You may also use toasted sesame oil if you prefer.
    • Water: Use the required amount of water.
    • Cornflour: Use cornflour for a thicker sauce consistency.
    • Honey: You can add honey if you like a sweeter sauce. You can also use maple syrup or brown sugar instead of honey.
    • Sriracha sauce: It adds some extra spice to this peanut butter noodle recipe.
    • Rice vinegar: It pairs up well with the noodles and balances out all the flavours in the dish.
    • Creamy peanut butter: You can use classic or natural peanut butter. You may also use crunchy peanut butter if you like.
    • Garlic: I used fresh minced garlic. It adds a deep flavour to the noodles.
    • Olive oil: You may also use vegetable oil if you prefer.
    • Ginger: Use grated ginger for added flavour. You can also substitute it with ground ginger.

    Topping

    • Green onion: Add chopped green onions for great flavour, colour and texture to the dish.
    • Peanuts: Top the dish with some chopped peanuts or any of your favourite nuts for a nutty flavour. You can also use roasted peanuts if you like.
    • Sesame seeds: You may add toasted sesame seeds for added crunch.

How to Make Sesame Peanut Noodles?

    Making the sauce
    • Cooking the pasta: Cook spaghetti according to the package instructions, then drain.
    • Preparing the sauce: In a small mixing bowl, mix together cornflour and water.
    • Mix in siracha, soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, honey and peanut butter.
    • In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat, add garlic and ginger, saute for 30 seconds. Pour in the sauce mixture and cook until lightly thickened. Remove from the heat and keep warm.
    • Adding the sauce to the pasta: Pour the sauce mixture over the noodles, mix well. Garnish with peanuts, green onion and sesame seeds.

    Recipe Tips

    • The peanut sauce can get very salty as it cooks. I recommend using unsalted peanut butter and low sodium soy sauce.
    • You can warm the peanut butter for 10-20 seconds to soften up so you can mix it easily.
    • If you have leftover sauce, you may store it for about a week in the fridge and warm it in a microwave before reheating it.
    • Taste and adjust the sauce if needed based on your taste preference.
    • Remember to not overcook the noodles as it is thin and may turn mushy.
    • For extra sesame flavour, you can add ½ tablespoon sesame paste to the sauce.

    Recipe Variations

    • You may reduce the amount of sriracha sauce if you don't like spicy food or replace it with fresh chillies or chilli flakes.
    • Substitute soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option or coconut aminos.
    • You can substitute peanut butter with almond butter or tahini based on your preference.
    • Adding some protein like chicken, steak, shrimp, or tofu would be a great addition to this dish.
    • You can add lime juice for some added flavour.

    Add-Ins

Although these peanut sesame noodles are delicious plain, there are lots to add to this dish, such as grated carrots, steamed broccoli, boiled zucchini or shredded chicken or turkey.
