This Marmite Pasta is a quick and easy meal with lots of flavors thanks to the Marmite, butter and parmesan cheese. This dish is ready in less than 15 minutes and perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Marmite Pasta
My Marmite Pasta recipe is very simple, quick and easy to make. All you need to do is cook, drain the pasta, and stir the ingredients. I love to serve this dish freshly cooked and hot.
This dish is inspired by Nigella Lawson's recipes. However, My mother uses Vegemite instead of Marmite, and she likes it. I never tried Vegemite myself.
What is Marmite?
Marmite is a savory spread, and it is also used in flavouring other dishes, such as this pasta recipe. It has a salty and bitter taste and a sticky and heavy consistency.
Let me tell you a secret: the first time I tried Marmite, I hated it; however, my husband loves it, and after a long time, when I had the chance to try it for a second time, I fell in love with its rich flavor.
Why We Love This Recipe
- This dish is quick and easy to make; it takes less than 20 minutes to make.
- The recipe is extremely friendly to your pockets. The base ingredients of this recipe are ones that are usually available in every household.
- The recipe is highly customizable. There are a bunch of other things that you can add to the pasta apart from the base ingredients.
For the love of Marmite, let’s jump right in without any further delay!
What Is In This Marmite Pasta Recipe?
Spaghetti. Spaghetti is the base ingredient of the recipe. Out of all the kinds of pasta, I like to use spaghetti the most.
Marmite. Marmite is the star of this recipe. We will use just 1 tablespoon of Marmite in making this dish.
Butter. It will give you a very smooth sauce with a silky texture. Since the Marmite is quite salty, you may want to opt for unsalted butter.
Parmesan. Using Parmesan will impart a strong flavour and creaminess to the pasta.
Fresh parsley. A totally optional ingredient to garnish, fresh parsley will add a refreshing freshness to the pasta.
Salt and Black Pepper. Add in Salt and Black Pepper to taste.

Three: Garnish with chopped parsley and serve.
Top Tips!
- I don't recommend making this dish if you haven't tried Marmite before; at least, you need to try it on a piece of bread to make sure you like it.
- You can reserve some pasta water and stir it into the pasta mix later to loosen the pasta up a bit and give your sauce a nice texture.
- You can add more or less Marmite according to your personal preference!
Variations & Substitutions
What I love about this recipe is how simple it is; for me I like to keep it simple. However, here are some of my suggestions if you would like to add or substitute some or any of the ingredients:
- You can swap out the Parmesan with mature Cheddar cheese, Gouda. or Feta.
- Adding cooked and chopped turkey or chicken adds a lot of flavour and a bit of protein to the pasta.
- You can swap out the fresh parsley with any fresh herbs you like.
- Throw in some veggies like bell peppers, celery or spinach.
- Sauteed mushrooms are a delightful addition to the recipe.
- You can use any form of pasta instead of spaghetti for this recipe.
Serving Suggestions
I love to serve this dish for lunch as is, however, if i served it for dinner i usually pair it with Vegetarian Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms or Crispy Chicken Patties.
A big bowl of plain and simple green salad works surprisingly well with this recipe.
Storage
Make Ahead of Time: Since Marmite Spaghetti is best served hot and fresh, avoid making the dish ahead of time.
To Store: Seal the leftovers in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It should still be good to be consumed within 2 days.
Reheating Instructions: Put the pasta into a pan and add some water to it to loosen it up a bit. Your pasta will then be ready to be reheated.
To Freeze: I don't recommend freezing this dish.
FAQs
This is a question that has extensively been a topic of debate. However, you would want to store it in the cupboard in order to be able to use it regularly. While refrigerating the Marmite does not pose an issue for this recipe, it will make it too hard to spread on toast (the way in which it is regularly used).
No. Marmite in itself is not gluten free. You can, however, look for gluten free options available in the market, though they may be quite difficult to come across.
