    Milk Balls Recipe

    Published: Nov 20, 2023 by Radwa ·

The Milk Balls recipe I'am sharing today is another great gift from TikTok to us! It's a 5-minute recipe that's good to serve as a quick snack.

TikTok milk balls in a serving plate.

    What Are Milk Balls?

Milk balls are essentially sweet balls of milk and sugar, flavoured with the help of some vanilla extract and cocoa powder. That's what I'am making today.

They are soft and mushy and taste a lot like milk (since that's what they're pretty much made of).

I used only five simple ingredients to make this recipe. I also added raisins, which I am very happy that I did so; they made these milk balls so delicious.

I know these TikTok recipes can really be a hit or miss, but hang in there for this one.

Because these Milk Balls can be used for much more than just be consumed on their own. For example, your kids will love these gooey balls accompanying their ice cream, Sundae and pancakes.

What Is Inside These Milk Balls?

Ingredients needed to make the recipe.

    Here are the 5 ingredients:

    • Milk: I tried them with regular cow's milk, but you can use any milk you'd like.
    • Cornstarch: You probably have this at home; if you don't, it's readily available at any grocery store.
    • Sugar: I used white sugar.
    • Raisins: Adding chopped raisins is My simple trick to give these snacks a sweet, fruity flavor.
    • Vanilla Extract (optional): To flavor the balls.
    • Cocoa Powder: This is optional, though I do recommend you add it.

“See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.”

    Variations & Substitutions

The sky is the limit for creativity on this recipe. It is a relatively new finding, after all, so you're getting a head start to make the best of the information you have. I'am given you a few of my favourite suggestions:

Chocolate Sauce: When you're a choco-lover, it only makes sense to drizzle chocolate sauce on anything and everything.

Nuts: I do believe some finely chopped nuts of your choice would add great texture to these balls. I Think of almonds, walnuts, pecans or hazelnuts. Be sure to chop them very finely. Otherwise, it can cause the balls to fall apart.

Chia seeds: I haven't tried this, but this might just be genius. Everyone loves chia pudding, so why not try Chia Milk Balls.

Coconut shavings: These Milk Balls are pretty sticky and workable. I think rolling these balls in finely grated coconut will make for a beautiful texture and flavour!

Brown Sugar: Although I haven't tried this recipe with brown sugar, you can go ahead and see how it goes. You can also always use part brown sugar and part white sugar so that you get the flavour and sweetness of both.

    How to Make Milk Balls?

The recipe is quite simple; I first made the dough and then shape it. This might just be the easiest recipe you've ever come across. So, it'll be super fun to involve kids whilst making these.

Mix milk, cornstarch, sugar, raisins and vanilla extract in a small saucepan.

First Step - Make The Dough

Mix milk, cornstarch, sugar, raisins and vanilla extract in a small saucepan over medium heat to make the dough.

The mixture might look nothing like a dough, but instead a runny consistency in the beginning. But fret not, because as the mixture is heated, it'll get denser in form. Keep stirring it consistently, whilst you're waiting.

The mixture has thickened and has become gooey.

After a while, you'll notice that the mixture has thickened and has become gooey. At this point, you can take the saucepan off the heat and let it sit for a while.

Second Step - Form The Balls

scoop 1 teaspoon of the dough and roll it between your palms to forma balls.

Once the mixture has cooled down and is safe to touch, scoop about a teaspoon of it on to your palm. Roll the mixture between your palms until it forms a soft ball.

Place this ball on a plate, scoop about another teaspoon of the dough with your hands and repeat the process. Keep rolling balls until all the dough has been used up.

Now, lightly dust some cocoa powder on the rolled balls that are sitting on the plate.

Ta-duh! your quick and easy Milk Balls are ready to be served.

    Top Tips

These snacks might taste bland to somebody with an extremely sweet tooth. Be sure to add some extra sugar if that's the case.

The time that it takes for the mixture to thicken in the saucepan is different for everyone. You just have to trust the process and keep stirring until a dough-like consistency forms.

    Serving Suggestions

Pancakes and waffle Toppings: You can make many mini-sized balls loaded with nuts and add them to pancakes alongside other toppings. Your kids will love you for it!

With your favourite hot beverage: Whether it's tea, coffee, or a glass of warm milk, everyone loves some sweet accompaniments. Let these balls be a sweet surprise for you and your spouse's next coffee break.

    Gluten-Free and Vegan

Currently, this recipe is gluten-free. Corn starch is 100% gluten-free if you had your doubts about it. However, this recipe is not currently vegan.

If you would like to make it vegan, you can easily replace the Milk with any dairy-free milk of your choice. The recipe is functional with any milk.

    What Do They Taste Like?

Ah yes! Since this is a relatively new TikTok finding, you'd want to know what it tastes like. It tastes like a mushy, sweet ball, and it's quite fun to gobble down. Overall, they're a pretty fun snack.
