Sweet Potato. Beaureguard is the most popular type of sweet potato in the world, and it is also the perfect one to use in baking because it is sleek with a long and skinny size which allows for a quicker baking time.
Tip: It is best to use the long and skinny-sized sweet potatoes instead of the rounder and bigger ones since those tend to bake longer in the oven.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It is the perfect cooking oil to use for making your baked sweet potato crisp on the outside and somewhat fluffy and soft on the inside.
How to Bake Sweet Potatoes in the oven?
Tip: Sweet potatoes are root vegetables, which means they grow underneath the ground. Hence, it is best to thoroughly wash them before you begin using them for baking!
Preheat your oven to 400F / 200C.
Prepare the sweet potatoes: Wash the sweet potato well, and then pat them dry with a paper towel.
Tip: Drying or patting your sweet potatoes dry with a paper towel as fully as you can is important in this situation so that the outer part of the sweet potato will become crisp and firm instead of soggy and drenched.
Now use a fork to poke holes in the sweet potato in different locations.
Brush the sweet potato with the oil.
Wrap them in foil: Wrap the sweet potatoes separately in aluminium foil sheets (don’t wrap it too tightly).
Tip: Make sure that the foil is wrapped tightly all over the sweet potato to prevent the sweet potato from drying out. The foil keeps all moisture within the sweet potato so it will be tender and fluffy instead of all-out dry.
Bake in the oven: Bake the sweet potato in the preheated oven for an hour. Remove from the oven and let it cool, then open the foil and cut the sweet potato lengthwise.
Use a fork to pull the pulp away from the skin. Serve and enjoy!
