Today, I will share a super easy coleslaw recipe Inspired by Jamie Oliver's coleslaw. My homemade coleslaw takes less than 10 minutes, and it is fresh, creamy, and super delicious. It is perfect for barbecue, lunch or as a side dish!
Coleslaw Recipe
I always make coleslaw with purple cabbage, but I want to try the white cabbage this time. Honestly, I didn't feel any different. Coleslaw is my go-to barbecue or summer salad.
My coleslaw recipe is incredibly crunchy, flavourful and easy to put together. If you find it hard to cut the cabbage, you may buy pre-cut cabbage for more convenience.
I topped the cabbage, carrot and onion with a super creamy, tangy and delicious dressing. I don't like to go heavy on the mayonnaise, so I used sour cream along with mayonnaise to give it a lighter taste, and it was SO good.
Coleslaw Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Cabbage: In this coleslaw recipe, I use white cabbage; however, you can use purple or a combination of both if you like.
Onion And Carrot: For a more flavorful and colorful coleslaw.
Note: If you want a coleslaw with a crunchier texture, chop the vegetable courser and chop them finer for a less crunchy texture.
For The Creamy Dressing: I used Mayonnaise, sour cream, cider vinegar, granulated sugar, mustard powder and salt.
How to Make Creamy Coleslaw?
Prepare the veggies: Julienne the carrots and cabbage (You can use Mandoline or a sharp knife). Put both the cabbage and carrot in a bowl. Now great the onions, then add them in the bowl with the cabbage and carrot.
Pro Tip: If you don't have Mandoline to Julienne the carrots and cabbage, watch this video. It will teach you how to Julienne carrots and cabbage using a sharp knife.
Make the coleslaw dressing: In a jug, mix mayonnaise, sour cream, vinegar, salt, black pepper, granulated sugar, and mustard powder.
Next, pour the dressing over the veggies and mix well. Serve and enjoy.
Top Tips!
- Feel free to replace sour cream with Greek yoghurt, if you prefer it.
- If you like to make it slightly spicy, you can add ½ pod of Jalapeño (diced) or ¼ teaspoon chilli powder.
- You can replace granulated sugar with honey if you like.
More Mix-In Ideas
- Fruits: Such as strawberries, raspberries, apple, and kiwi.
- Nuts: You can add some chopped nuts such as almond, walnut, hazelnut or pine.
- Cheese: If you love cheese, you can add some to this salad, such as cheddar cheese or feta cheese.
- Dried fruits and seeds: Add ¼ cup of any dried fruits or seeds you fancy to this salad, such as fig and poppyseeds.
