Do you have some frozen peas in your freezer? Try this Buttery Peas recipe; it is absolutely amazing! Simple, easy, quick side dish made with just butter, garlic, and frozen peas in less than 10 minutes.

This buttered peas is my go-to recipe to use up my stocked frozen peas by giving them a buttery and delicious taste that all my family enjoy so much.

a spoonful of buttery peas with garlic and butter!

    Easy Buttery Peas Recipe

I always prefer to pair my meat dishes with something green like this dish.

When cooked to perfection, the crunch of the peas turns to subtle crispiness with that superb delicateness that the butter has made possible. You can only imagine how flavorful and delicious this dish is when served.

This is my absolutely best way to cook frozen peas for a quick side for lunch or dinner!

    Ingredients

    • Frozen Peas. Take out your frozen green peas and finally put them to good use by making this recipe! You may also use fresh peas if you like; however, I found that frozen peas are cheaper, convenient and always available in the supermarket.
    • Water: Just 1-2 tablespoons so that peas comes out soft.
    • Butter. It will make the peas rich and buttery. I prefer salted butter.
    • Garlic. Use fresh and crushed garlic to flavor this recipe.
    • Salt and Pepper. To taste.

“See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.”

    Variations

    • Pair garlic with chopped onions to give off caramelized taste to the buttered frozen peas.
    • Season the dish with oregano or thyme for more freshness and taste.
    • Add some fresh herbs such as parsley, chives, mint or cilantro.
    • Add finely cut chicken pieces to this dish to give this dish more depth. The chicken pieces will definitely pair well with the green peas once cooked through.

    How to Make Buttered Peas?

mix peas, garlic, and butter over medium heat.

One: In a pan, mix peas, garlic, and butter over medium heat.

Two: Cook for 2-4 minutes or until the peas are heated through (stir occasionally).

Three: Add the water, turn down the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes or until the peas are cooked to your liking. Remove from the heat, add salt and pepper.

Ta-duh! Your Buttery Pean dish is ready!

Should I Boil The Frozen Peas?

No, you don't have to boil them. However, some love their green peas as soft rather than crisp. If you love that version, boil the frozen green peas to a little softness before using them for this recipe.

    Top Tips!

    • Retain over medium heat when cooking this dish because the butter can easily get burned, giving off a bitter taste and ruining the texture we want.
    • To make this dish vegan, all you have to do is to use vegan-friendly butter.
    • If you intend to use fresh peas, I recommend buying small peas, which are sweeter, softer and less starchy.

BBQ Chicken Pasta creates an even more satisfying meal once paired with these buttery peas.

To store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container before refrigerating for up to three days.

Freeze: Make sure that you have stored this dish in an airtight container first before you keep it in the freezer for up to three months.

Easy side dish and the garlic gave it extra flavour; I served it with steak.
