Chocolate Tea Recipe
I love chocolates as much as I love tea, so what better than adding chocolate to my tea mixture?
Chocolate Tea is not just your typical sweet-flavored hot drink as it contains the warm sweet flavor of cocoa that had been toned down by milk along, of course, with the tea.
I love the creamy, hot, and thick texture of this tea. This recipe also highlights the chocolatey flavor of cocoa, but with the addition of actual melted chocolate, the flavor became one of the tastiest you could ever have in your tea.
Chocolate Tea is a drink that you can literally have any time of the day. I always make this tea when I wake up early on a rainy morning. I like to warm myself up with this sweet concoction.
I love to make this hot chocolate tea as simple as possible to enjoy the chocolate flavor, so I don't like adding any spices.
What's in This Chocolate Tea Recipe?
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Milk. I prefer full-fat milk. However, I also tested this recipe with almond milk, and it was AMAZING!
Tea. I use black tea bags, I highly recommend using a good quality black tea.
Chocolate. You may use any of your favorite chocolate in making this recipe. I use milk chocolate chips.
Cocoa Powder. I prefer natural cocoa powder, it will help the melted chocolate in giving your tea its most significant chocolatey flavor.
Brown Sugar. I use brown sugar to sweeten this milk chai. However, you may use honey or maple syrup instead.
How To Make Chocolate Chai?
One: In a saucepan, combine milk, cocoa powder, water and sugar over medium heat. Then bring it to boil.
Two: Add the tea bags and boil for 2-3 minutes, then take out the tea bags and add the chocolate and let it melt.
Three: Pour the chocolate chai into a cup and serve hot.
Recipe Variations
- Add little marshmallows to your finished tea as a topping.
- You may add regular black tapioca pearls if you like.
- Make spicy chocolate tea by adding ground cinnamon ground ginger or ground cardamom.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this delicious tea with a slice of M&M's cookie bars or chocolate rice Krispie treats.
It also goes well with blackberry muffins, lemon coconut muffins or whole wheat strawberry banana muffins.
Recipe FAQs
Of course, you can make a dairy-free chocolate tea. You just have to use plant-based milk since they are free from dairies like oat milk and almond milk, or even soy milk. You should also consider checking the chocolate you will use in case it has a diary in it and change it into dairy-free chocolate that is available in your markets.
Yes. There would not be any changes in the way your chocolate chai taste when you add iced cubes into the cup. Serving this recipe hot or cold would still be good either way.
