I still have leftover eggnog after making my eggnog cookies. I wanted to try eggnog cake, so I made one.

My eggnog cake is a rich, two-layer holiday cake coated with silky eggnog buttercream and white chocolate. It is perfect for Christmas!

    Easy Eggnog Cake Recipe

The texture and flavor of this cake are amazing. The cake is super fluffy and soft, and it has a scrumptious, sweet taste. I am sure you will love it!

The amount of eggnog I use in this recipe is 1 cup for the cake batter and 3 tablespoons for the buttercream.

Also, I forgot to add vanilla extract to the buttercream; however, it turned out so good. Feel free to add vanilla if you want.

I actually loved the buttercream flavor with eggnog better; eggnog gives it a fantastic flavor, and it also pairs so well with the white chocolate topping. It's really a delicious, elegant cake for the holiday season!

I used to make eggnog at home with cream, milk, whipped egg whites, sugar, and cinnamon. It tastes like sweet milk flavored with warm spices.

Cut the whole eggnog cake into slices and put in plates.

    Eggnog Cake Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make the recipe.

“See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.”

    • Butter: I use unsalted butter at room temperate.
    • Granulated sugar
    • Eggs: I use 3 large eggs at room temperate.
    • Eggnog: In this recipe, I use store-bought; however, homemade eggnog works fine too.
    • Flour: I use all purpose flour for making this cake.
    • Baking powder: To make the cake soft and fluffy.
    • Spices: I use ground cinnamon and nutmeg in this recipe.
    • Vanilla extract: To flavor.

For the Eggnog Buttercream, I use butter, powdered sugar, eggnog, and white chocolate.

How To Make Eggnog Cake With Eggnog Buttercream?

Before starting, preheat the oven to 180C / 350F and line two 20 cm springforms with parchment paper.

Steps of making the eggnog cake.

One (Make The Cake): In a mixing bowl, whisk butter and sugar using the electric whisk. Add the eggs one by one and vanilla extract, whisk.

Two: Add the eggnog, whisk. Then, stir in the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

Three: Distribute the batter equally between the two springforms. Bake for 30 minutes.

Mix the eggnog buttercream ingredients in a small bowl.

Four (Make The Eggnog Buttercream): In a mixing bowl, beat the butter well until it becomes creamy. Add the powdered sugar and eggnog and beat again until the mixture becomes soft.

Five (Assemble The Cake): Spread some of the eggnog buttercream on top of the first cake then top it with the second cake. Now, spread the rest of the eggnog buttercream on top of the second cake and all the sides.

Six: Sprinkle the white chocolate on top of the cake. Use some of the buttercream to make bulbs on the sides of the cake and sprinkle some cinnamon on top.

a slice of the eggnog cake is on a serving plate.
