Hot Cocoa Mug Cake
The texture of this mug cake is something that will make you want for more; creamy, thick, rich, and absolutely yummy.
Because this mug cake is super quick and easy to make, I like to have it in the morning for breakfast; there is nothing better than starting the day with chocolatey goodness.
Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Flour. This recipe works best with all-purpose flour.
Granulated Sugar. I use just 1 tablespoon.
Hot Cocoa Mix. Use your favorite hot cocoa mix in this recipe.
Chocolate Chips. I love adding chocolate chips to the cake batter for extra chocolate flavor.
Milk. I use full-fat milk for a rich cake texture.
Butter. Butter helps the texture of your mug cake to be richer. However, you may use vegetable oil or sunflower oil instead.
For topping (optional): I top it with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
Step-By-Step Instructions
One: In a large mug, mix together hot cocoa mix, flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and chocolate chips until combined.
Two: In another mug, mix together milk and melted butter.
Three: Now, add the wet ingredients to the dry ones and mix until they are combined. Make sure there are no lumps in the batter.
Four: Put the mug in the microwave for 1 minute and 40 seconds, or until the batter is no longer runny ( If it's not done, cook for 30-second more).
Tip: Do not overcook, or the cake will turn dry.
Five: Remove the mug from the microwave and allow it to cool for two minutes.
Tip: Check to see whether it's done by gently pressing a couple of fingers against the top: if they stick slightly, it's done. And if it's still completely wet, microwave it in 5- to 10-second increments until it gets the right, slightly sticky consistency.
Six: Then, top with any toppings you like; I used whipped cream and drizzled some chocolate sauce on top.
Serve It With
Caramel latte is the best beverage to pair with this equally chocolatey mug cake. Chocolate Bubble Tea and Homemade Oat Milk Hot Chocolate also are so delicious with this mug cake.
