What’s in This Nutella Overnight Oats Recipe?
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Old Fashioned Oats. I prefer the texture of Old Fashioned Oats to quick oats in this recipe. It is more chewy.
Almond Milk. You may replace almond milk with whole milk or skimmed milk.
Maple Syrup. To add some sweetness, you can use honey instead.
Cocoa Powder. A hint of strong chocolatey flavor coming off cocoa powder should not go missing in this recipe.
Nutella.
Chia Seeds. They contribute a mild nutty flavor to the recipe, and this ingredient works well in sweetening the taste of the dish too.
Hazelnuts. More nutty flavor for your toppings to complement the taste of chia seeds.
Almond Butter. Creamy, silky, nutty; perfect additional topping to an already nutty and chocolatey dish.
Fresh Strawberries Slices. The choice is yours to make as to what fruit you would like to add to this recipe, but fresh strawberry slices are one of the best fruits you can use.
How To Make Nutella Overnight Oats With Chia Seeds?
- In a mason jar or bowl, mix almond milk, cacao powder, maple syrup, chia seeds, and Nutella until well incorporated.
- Add in oats and salt, mix until combined.
- Cover and store in the fridge overnight.
- The next day, top with fresh strawberries slices, almond butter and some hazelnuts or any other toppings of choice and enjoy!
Top Tips!
- Refrigerate your Overnight Oats for at least a day before serving; it promises a more flavorful experience.
- Do not exceed the right amount of cocoa powder as it may overwhelm the chocolatey taste of Nutella.
- Add slices of ripe bananas instead of fresh strawberries. However, if you want this dish to be more fruity, you can add both strawberries and bananas as toppings.
- Macadamia nuts, with their crispy and crunchy texture and nutty flavor are a good substitute for hazelnuts. You may use macadamia nuts for toppings.
- Almond milk contributes a nutty and milk flavor to the recipe, but it is less creamy. If you want a thicker and creamier consistency, swap this with whole milk.
- You can also use any nut butter you prefer as a topping, such as a peanut butter or cashew butter. You can also use seeds butter.
Recipe FAQs
If you have used almond milk or other plant-based milk, then yes, you are making a vegan version of this recipe.
Overnight oats keep for up to 3 days in the fridge.
Unfortunately, I don't recommend that substitution. The use of quick oats will not provide the same rich texture that old-fashioned oats contribute because quick oats become too mushy when coming in contact with wet ingredients.
The secret is the right oats to milk ratio. I use 2 parts milk to 1 part oats, and it turns out fantastic. However, adjust the ratio according to your liking.
