These Easy Orange Pancakes are light, fluffy, and packed with a brilliant orange flavor thanks to the infusion of fresh orange juice and zest! Simply delicious!

a big pile of Orange Pancakes.

    Orange Pancake Recipe

I can't count how many times I made these orange pancakes; they are my family's favourite breakfast, and I've made them SO many times. I even sometimes serve them as snacks or desserts.

This homemade recipe is so easy to make, and the result may be quite simple, but the taste is the subtle burst of orange flavor, after all, there are both orange juice and orange zest in this recipe.

The texture does not disappoint either since these pancakes are soft and yummy at the same time.

I made this recipe from scratch, I made the pancake mixture with flour and added baking powder and soda as leavening agents. Because I made it from scratch, I had full control over the pancakes' ingredients and taste.

I used both orange juice and orange zest to give these pancakes a deep orangy flavour, which was SO GOOD.

I sometimes like to double the recipe to serve more pancakes throughout the week as they store beautifully.

    Why We Love This Recipe

    • This recipe is light and has a somewhat fresh taste, thanks to the orange juice and orange zest.
    •  Pancakes, as a whole, are mainly eaten at breakfast. Orange Pancakes, however, are the kind of pancakes you can serve and eat as snacks or even desserts.
    •  A quick and easy recipe, perfect for a busy morning.
cut and eat the orange pancakes.

    Ingredients

Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Orange Juice. I used fresh orange juice because this is the base flavour of your pancakes; orange juice gives this dish a sweet and citrusy taste. I used fresh orange juice.

Orange Zest. It adds more orange flavor to your pancakes.

All-purpose Flour. Instead of using a ready-made pancake mix, I like ti make this pancake recipe from scratch with the help of all-purpose flour.

Baking Powder and baking Soda. Both help the pancake batter to rise and produce a fluffier and lighter pancake texture.

To sweeten the pancake, I only use ¼ cup. You may decrease this amount to just 2 tablespoons if you like.

Milk. I used whole milk but you may use any milk you prefer for this recipe.

Eggs. They also help the pancake to rise. I used 2 large eggs.

Butter. It gives the pancakes a wonderful flavor and soft texture; however, you can replace it with oil if you like.

    How To Make Orange Pancakes?

Whisk milk, eggs and orange juice, add flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, orange zest and baking soda.

One: Whisk milk, eggs and orange juice in a large bowl until smooth.

Two: Whisk in flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, orange zest and baking soda.

Mix in melted butter and pour about ¼ cup of the batter into the pan to cook.

Three: Mix in melted butter and stir until smooth.

Four: Heat large pan over medium heat. Grease the pan with oil. Now, pour about ¼ cup of the batter into the pan for each pancake.

Five: When bubbles begin to appear on top, flip the pancakes and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the other side is lightly brown.

Six: Place the pancakes into a serving plate. Serve with whipped cream and a drizzle of maple syrup on top.

    Top Tips!

    • I suggest you prepare the dry ingredients by sifting them to aid in the incorporation of air, which will make the pancakes light.
    • After adding the wet ingredients to the dry, I recommend to mix only until everything is well incorporated. Overmixing might result in pancakes that are tough and chewy.

    • Experiment in the kitchen and add melted white chocolate for a more interesting pancake flavor.

    Serving Suggestions

I suggest you serve this dish with your casual cup of hot black coffee to make your breakfast complete. Here are some other drinks suggestions to pair with the pancakes:

    Recipe FAQs

Should you cook pancakes in oil or butter?

Butter makes your pancakes easier to burn in the pan, if you are still a newbie and just trying to test the waters in this recipe, it is best to use olive oil as it has a higher smoke point than butter. It means that your pancakes will not easily get burnt with the use of olive oil.

Why are my pancakes not light and fluffy?

You must have used an old baking soda which made your pancake rough and dry instead of being light and fluffy. Use fresh or new baking soda to achieve the desired texture of your pancakes. Avoid overmixing the batter as well.
