Ingredients
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Peanut butter: I use good quality smooth peanut butter.
Butter: I use unsalted.
Powdered Sugar: To sweeten up the balls.
Vanilla extract: To add flavor.
How to Make Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls?
One: Start with butter, and add it to a mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to beat the butter until it is nice and fluffy.
Two: Next, we will add the peanut butter and continue mixing until it is well combined.
Three: Proceed to add the vanilla extract or essence (whatever you have in your kitchen is fine), and then proceed to add the sugar.
Four: The sugar will take time to mix in with it, so add it in small quantities. Add some sugar, and mix well. Once blended smooth, add some more sugar. Continue this process until all the sugar is added and the dough is nice and smooth.
Five: Place this ‘mixture’, which would now look like dough, in the fridge for 1-2 hours so that it can firm up.
Once taken out of the fridge, go ahead and shape it into the exciting shape of balls.
Six: Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the dough and roll it between your hands, forming a ball. Repeat this with the remaining batter, then put it in the fridge for 30 minutes or so.
Your delicious snack is ready without the time or fuss of baking!
Some Variations
- Although this recipe tastes excellent, all plain and simple, there is a chocolate variation you can try. Just take the cold balls into warm melted chocolate and allow them to dry on a baking sheet. You’ll love this if you’re a chocoholic.
- If you don’t like chocolate and want to make these balls more attractive and seem more like “candies”, then you can also add some colourful sprinkles.
- I’ve mentioned that I use smooth peanut butter. However, if you like that texture, you can also use the crunchy one.
How To Store Them
I really enjoy them at room temperature, and I usually store them at room temperature for up to 3 days and in the fridge for a whole week or so.
I also sometimes freeze them; to do so, line these in an air-tight container with parchment paper on top and bottom. They’ll stay good in the freezer for about a month.
Recipe FAQ’s
It could just be that they aren’t firm enough yet. Most sticky balls will become firm when stored in the fridge for more than 30 minutes.
If they are too crumbly, then there could be two reasons causing this. One could be excess powdered sugar, and the second could be the lack of butter.
If you try this recipe as it is, then yes! This recipe is gluten-free.
