What are Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls?

They are a piece of edible art. And one that requires minimal ingredients as well as effort. In other words, it’s a baker’s best-kept secret. It’s a collision of peanut butter, and powdered sugar rolled into shiny-golden brown balls with the help of butter. The nutty essence whipped up extra sweet and buttery hit just the right spots.

What’s in the Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls?

Peanut butter: A brand that’s smooth in consistency

Butter: Just what you have at home

Powdered Sugar: Also known as bakers sugar

Vanilla extract: Essence will also work

How to Make Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls?

How to make the recipe by photos

This might be the simplest recipe you have ever read.
Start with butter, and add it to a mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to beat the butter until it is nice and fluffy.

Next, we will add the peanut butter and continue mixing until it is well combined.

Proceed to add the vanilla extract or essence (whatever you have in your kitchen is fine), and then proceed to add the sugar.

The sugar will take time to mix in with it, so add it in small quantities. Add some sugar, and mix well. Once blended smooth, add some more sugar. Continue this process until all the sugar is added and the dough is nice and smooth.

Place this ‘mixture’, which would now look like dough, in the fridge for 1-2 hours so that it can firm up.

Once taken out of the fridge, go ahead and shape it into the exciting shape of balls.

Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the dough and roll it between your hands, forming a ball. Repeat this with the remaining batter, then put it in the fridge for 30 minutes or so.

Your unique candy balls are ready to be savoured, without the time or fuss of baking!

    Top Tips!

    • If you’re in a rut for ingredients, there’s a good chance that you won’t have powdered sugar at home. You can make your own powdered sugar by plopping some granulated sugar in a food processor.
    • At any point, if there are too many dry ingredients for the balls to clump and maintain their shape, feel free to add a bit of melted butter for moisture.

    Some Variations

This might just be the most versatile recipe you have ever come across. These recipe can be spiced up with a variety of different flavours and toppings. Here are a few of our suggestions:

    • Although this recipe tastes excellent, all plain and simple, there is a chocolate variation you can try. Just take the cold peanut butter balls into warm melted chocolate and allow them to dry on a baking sheet. You’ll love this if you’re a chocoholic.
    • If you don’t like chocolate and want to make these balls more attractive and seem more like “candies”, then you can also add some colourful sprinkles.
    • We’ve mentioned that you use smooth peanut butter. However, if you like that texture, you can also use the crunchy one.
    • If you land on this blog around Easter, these can make for some delicious Easter eggs. Just roll them into egg shapes instead of balls.
    • You can even make these healthy or a power snack to give you energy on the go. Just pack these with some chia seeds, oats, or even dried cranberries and raisins. It might be a little hard to pack on; make sure to use lots of peanut butter and butter.

There’s still so much you can do with these. Sky is the limit! If there’s anything new you try, don’t forget to leave us a comment down below about it!

    Recipe FAQ’s

Why are my peanut butter balls so sticky?

It could just be that they aren’t firm enough yet. Depending on how sticky they are, there are two solutions to this. Most sticky balls will become firm when stored in the fridge for more than 30 minutes.
If they aren’t, it could be that you have added too much butter, in which case, just add some peanut butter and powdered sugar to balance it out.

Why are my peanut butter balls so crumbly?

If your peanut butter balls are too crumbly, then there could be two reasons causing this. One could be excess powdered sugar, and the second could be the lack of butter you powered into this recipe. You should start by adding a tiny bit of butter. If it’s still too crumbly, then scoop in some extra peanut butter.

Some peanut butter jars come with an excess of oil-saturated at the top of the container. Don’t avoid this saturation of oil. Instead, mix it into the peanut butter well before scooping it out of the jar to make your Peanut Butter Balls.

Are this no bake recipe gluten-free?

If you try this recipe as it is, then yes! These Peanut Butter Balls are gluten-free. Peanut butter, butter, and even chocolate (which you may have added under the recipe variations listed above) are gluten-free ingredients.

Can I make these with brown sugar?

We can’t think of a reason why you shouldn’t try it. Brown sugar is definitely a much healthier alternative to white sugar. Plus, brown sugar is lightly packed and fine in nature, so it should work just as well as brown sugar. If you try these plain Peanut Butter Balls with brown sugar, don’t forget to comment below on how it went. We love it when you leave us comments.
