Egyptian Kofta or Kofta kebab is well-seasoned ground beef mixed with parsley, onion and garlic. Traditionally, beef kofta kebabs usually made with ground lamb. However, you can alter that by using beef, chicken or even mixture of both lamb and beef; it all works well.
Today's kofta kebab recipe is so simple and delicious; it is one of the most popular dishes in Egypt and all the Mediterranean area.
Kofta Kebab Ingredients
- Ground beef: You may use half of the amount ground lamb if you want.
- Parsley: Gives a delicious flavour to the dish.
- Salt: To taste.
- Ground pepper: Use white or black pepper.
- Cayenne pepper: You may replace it with chili powder
- Paprika: will add a mild sweet taste
- white bun: Soaked in water
- Onion: Just one onion
- Garlic: Good flavouring agent
How to make Egyptian Kofta Recipe (Kofta Kebab)
Preparations: 1- Chop the parsley
2- Soak the bun in water until it becomes mushy then take it out and squeeze the water out of it.
Making the Kofta: In a bowl, mix all the ingredients until well combined.
Then, take a handful of the meat mixture and mold it on a wooden skewer. Repeat the process until all the meat is finish.
Grilling: Heat the grill then place kebabs on it and grill for about 7-8 minutes on each side after that remove from the grill and serve hot.
Top Tips!
- You can use breadcrumbs instead of the soaked bun if you like.
- You can serve these koftas on their skewers or without. Also, you can leave them as they are or slice them; it is only a personal preference.
- Also, you may need to brush the grill with some butte before you put the koftas on.
What To Serve Kofta Kebab With
The best bread to serve with: You can serve it with pita (pitta) bread, or if you like me love french bread you can serve it with baguette.
Sauce or dip: Of course the best sauce to serve with Kofta Kebab is tahini dressing; it is the perfect match with kofta. However, you can also use yoghurt sauce.
Salads: You can serve it with any green salad of your choice.
Side dish: The best side dish that can go so well with grilled kofta is roasted or grilled veggies.
Storage
Make ahead of time: You can mix everything together and keep it in the fridge for 1-2 days, ready to grill.
To store: After grilling the kofta, you may store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-4 days.
Freezing: Kofta freezes beautifully. Just wrap in 2 layers of foil pepper and put in the fridge; it will last for 1-2 months.
