Apple Curd Tart with puff pastry features a crisp and flaky crust filled with sweet and creamy apple curd and then topped with apple slices.
Apple Curd Tart
This is by far the easiest tart I have ever made. It is also vegan-friendly and full of richness and robust flavor. A perfect simple dessert idea for any occasion!
The crust is an excellent crumbly baked puff pastry sheet, and it already possesses a buttery taste, but filled with apple curd? The combination is supreme and and the topping is just as fruity.
Super easy to make, no need to make your curd as you can easily buy and have it from the grocery store. The puff pastry sheet is also an already ready-to-use ingredient for the recipe.
Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Puff Pastry Sheet. I used a pre-made puff pastry sheet, giving this dish a buttery taste for the crust and crumbly crisp texture.
Egg Yolk. You will not incorporate the egg yolk into the recipe, you will just use this for the egg wash, which will help your puff pastry sheet develop a golden color and more crisp texture.
Apple Curd. Apple curd is a very rich and creamy spread that boasts a smooth texture with a sweet and lightly spiced taste.I used a homemade apple curd.
Apple. I like to make this recipe even more fruity by adding some slices of apple on the top.
Note: I recommend using Granny Smith apples as they are a little tart, perfect for baking, and keep their structure after baking.
Granulated Sugar. I used just 1 tablespoon to sprinkle on the apple.
Powdered Sugar. This is optional if you like to sprinkle some powdered sugar on top of your tart after baking.
Sliced Almonds. This is also an optional finishing touch to your tart, feel free to skip it if you are not fond of nuts.
How to Make Apple Curd Tart with Puff Pastry?
One: Preheat the oven to 180c / 350f and line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
Two: Mix egg yolk with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl.
Three: Roll the puff pastry out and brush the egg wash on all the edges of the puff pastry, making about 2 cm border.
Four: Spread the apple curd equally on top of the pastry sheet (on the inside of the egg wash border), top with the apple slices. Sprinkle the apples with granulated sugar.
Five: Bake for 35-40 minutes, let it cool on a wire rack.
Six: Scatter powdered sugar and almond slices on top, slice and serve.
Serving Suggestions
For tea time, Thyme Tea or Chocolate Milk Tea would be a perfect pair for this dish.
A cup of White Chocolate Latte or Caramel Latte and this tart is also an excellently simple combo in the morning.
Storage
It is always best to serve this dish fresh from the oven. However, on the rare occasion that you still have some leftovers, you may slice it into little pieces before placing them in an airtight container. Store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
