French Strawberry Tart Recipe
This French Strawberry Tart is one of my favorite desserts; let me tell you why: the tart crust SO buttery and flaky in the best way possible. Meanwhile, the filling is an incredible and irresistible creamy cream cheese filling flavored with vanilla, lemon juice, and zest. YUM!
That already seems so delicious, but you have to know there is more: this tart is packed with fresh, juicy and sweet strawberries! You can only imagine how flavorful and delightful this tart is.
Why We Love This Recipe
- This is the best way to invest your store-bought strawberries!
- Delicious, creamy, filling, and incredibly scrumptious that is so rich in flavor.
- A good dessert that you can serve alongside any drink you prefer.
- A freezer-friendly recipe.
Ingredients
Pie Crust. I used store-bought crust but you can make your own pie crust.
Heavy Cream. Heavy cream helps in creaming and thickening the filling. It goes hand in hand with cream cheese.
Cream Cheese. In my opinion cream cheese is the ideal filling for this tart.
Granulated Sugar. Sweetener for the filling.
Lemon Juice and Zest. I love to use both lemon juice and zest because they add more depth of flavor to the tart.
Vanilla Extract. Vanilla extract enhances the flavor of your tart, so be sure to add some drops of it.
Fresh Strawberries. Fresh strawberries are the starring ingredient of the dish.

How To Make Easy Strawberry Tart - Step By Step
First Step - Bake the crust: Press the pie crust into an 11" tart pan, trim the edges and then prick all over with a fork; finally, bake for 28-30 minutes or until golden. Let it cool completely on a cooling rack (Photo 1 & 2).
Pro Tip: Grease the bottom of the pie crust with unsalted butter before baking it to avoid the crust sticking to the pan.
Second Step - Whip the heavy cream: In a large bowl, beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form (Photo 3).
Third Step - Whip the cream cheese: In another large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, lemon juice and zest, vanilla and sugar until soft (Photo 4 & 5 & 6).
Forth Step - Now, fold the heavy cream into the cream cheese mixture, then scoop it into the cooled crust (Photo 7 & 8).
Fifth Step - Decorate with fresh strawberries: Starting on the outside, arrange strawberries on top of the tart in a circle until the entire tart is covered (Photo 9).
Pro Tip: Chill this Strawberry Tart in the fridge before serving it. This allows for all the flavors to be more evident and improve the texture of the tart as well.
Top Tips!
- Slice the strawberries half before topping it to your tart, this will allow for an easier serving.
- Refrigerate the cream cheese filling before scooping it up into your crust. Chilled cream cheese will hold the strawberry toppings a whole lot better.
Variations & Substitutions
- You can substitute the cream cheese with greek yogurt. It will give the same thick filling you will love in your tart.
- Top your French Strawberry Tart with whip cream, a simple topping that easily complements the strawberries or drizzle with a strawberry glaze, like in my recipe Strawberry Loaf Cake.
- You may use red currant jam to brush the strawberries on top of your tart. This will give an extra luscious color while also sweetening the strawberries more.
- You can use any fresh berries you like.
How To Serve
I like to serve this tart alongside my homemade Mac and Cheese, Marmite Pasta, Creamy Paprika Chicken Pasta, or Creamy Tuna Pasta Salad!
You can also just enjoy your tart with homemade Caramel Latte for a snack, and Oat Milk Chocolate for when the weather is cold.
Serve it topped with a scoop of ice cream such as Chocolate Marshmallow Ice Cream or Black Raspberry Ice Cream.
Storage
To Store: It is best to refrigerate your Strawberry Tart by placing it in an airtight container first. The tart may last for 2 days in the fridge.
To Freeze: Do not place the fresh strawberries yet if you are planning to freeze this tart. You may freeze the tart for up to two months, thaw overnight in the fridge when you already plan to serve it, and then top it with the fresh strawberries.
Recipe FAQs
Unfortunately, fruit tarts like this recipe have no long shelf life unless frozen. When refrigerated or chilled, it can only last two days max.
You may add other berries like blueberries or cranberries to this recipe to add more sweetness and tang but don't add too much that the strawberries will already be overshadowed.
