    Fasolia (Green Bean Stew)

I have learned how to make the best Fasolia ever from my mother. Since then, I have always cooked green beans this way.

Growing up, Fasolia was a staple dish on our dinner table. My mother would make it frequently.

The best consistency for this dish is the one that is not so runny like a soup and not too thick! Check the above photo to see the right consistency!

I like using fresh green beans. However, if you use frozen green beans, don't thaw them before cooking. I also advise reducing the amount of the broth to ¼ cup because they will release liquid while cooking.

Note: This dish tastes even better the next day as the green beans stay longer in the tomato sauce.

    Ingredients

Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    • Green beans: I recommend fresh green beans since I already don't like the texture of frozen ones.
    • Tomato sauce: Use good quality tomato ssaauce.
    • Onion and garlic: I love to cook with onion and garlic; they add more flavor to any dish.
    • Seasonings: I used salt, black pepper and ground coriander.
    • Chicken broth: You may use beef broth, or if you want this dish vegan or vegetarian, use water instead.
    • Olive oil: I like to saute the onion and garlic in olive oil but you can use vegetable oil or any other cooking oil.

How To Make Fasolia (Green Bean Stew)?

    How to make the recipe.

One: The first thing I do is wash the green beans, pat them dry with a kitchen towel, trim both ends with a sharp knife and cut the beans into small pieces.

Two: In a small pot, heat the olive oil and then add the onion and garlic; saute over medium heat for 1 minute or until the onion is tender.

Three: Add the green beans, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, coriander and broth. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until fully cooked.

Tip: Simmering is super important to enhance the flavour and thicken the consistency of this dish a little.

    How To Serve

I like serving Fasolia over white rice; however, sometimes I also serve them with tortilla or Gyro Bread.

Also, you can serve them with  Maple Chicken Thighs, Garlic Butter Herb Chicken Breast or Creamy Avocado Sauce Pasta.

I put leftovers in a well-sealed container in the fridge for 2-3 days or freeze them for 1-2 months. Thaw, then reheat it in the microwave or on the stovetop.
