Absolutely amazing Quorn Bolognese ready in 30 minutes for a meat-free, super delicious meal. Quorn mince and fresh veggies cooked in Bolognese sauce. SO yum!
Quorn Bolognese
I always have Quorn mince in my freezer because I am a big fan of Quorn recipes. This Quorn Bolognese is one of my favorites. It is flavourful, simple, and so delicious + my family love it.
I also love this recipe because it is packed with veggies, but the best part is that they are all hidden! Thus, I do not need to convince my kids anymore to eat their fair share of nutrition.
Why I Love This Recipe
- This recipe is ready to eat in as little as 30 minutes, which make it an ideal option for a quick meal.
- A delicious vegetarian bolognese.
- It is an extremely comforting meal served with pasta.
- Quorn Mince is way cheaper as compared to traditional mince.
- Quorn Bolognese can very easily be batch-cooked.
Ingredients
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Olive Oil. It will be used to sauté the vegetables for this recipe. You can use vegetable oil or avocado oil instead.
Onion and garlic. I used one medium-sized white onion and 3 cloves of garlic.
Veggies: I used 1 zucchini, 1 stalk of celery, and 1 medium-sized carrot.
Herbs: I used dried thyme, rosemary, basil and bay leaf. Feel free to use fresh herbs if you want.
Quorn Mince (frozen). A vegetarian mince that is available in almost all the supermarkets.
Vegetable Stock. It will give a saucy texture to your dish as it simmers.
Tomato Sauce and Puree. Both add a thick consistency to your dish along with a deep, tangy flavour.
Salt and Pepper. To taste.
How To Make Quorn Bolognese?
One: Heat the oil in a large frying pan and cook all the veggies on medium heat for 2-3 minutes until softened.
Two: Add thyme, bay leaf, rosemary, and basil, and stir everything together.
Three: Stir in the frozen Quorn mince (stir frequently) for a minute to break up.
Four: Mix in the tomato sauce, stock, and tomato puree. Simmer on medium heat for 20-25 minutes (stirring frequently).
Note: Simmering the sauce enhances this dish's flavour.
Five: Garnish with some chopped parsley and serve immediately.
Variations
- Add some more veggies like capsicum, baby spinach, or anything else you can think of.
- Add chopped red chillies to spice up this dish.
- If you have a lot of time before serving this dish, cook it in a slow cooker on low for around six hours. This will ensure that the flavors and aroma of the ingredients blend in well.
- You can also blend in Marmite or Worcestershire sauce for a slightly tangier flavour profile.
Serving Suggestions
I like to serve this dish with plain spaghetti or Vegan Roasted Cauliflower With Garlic.
A side of Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese is a good choice when it comes to sides that go well with this dish.
Storage
Make Ahead of Time: You can simply make this recipe ahead of time and store it in the fridge. It is sure to keep for up to three days.
To Freeze: It can be kept in the freezer in a freezer bag for up to three whole months!
If you are reheating frozen Quorn Bolognese, make sure that you defrost it completely before you do so. If the sauce has thickened a lot, simply add a little water to thin it.
To Reheat: Reheat it in the microwave until it is piping hot for the best flavour.
Recipe FAQs
No, Quorn Mince is not suitable for vegan eaters. However, you can look for other plant-based mince products that can substitute the Quorn, and you will have an equally delicious vegan recipe in hand.
While the Italians may throw curses your way for this question, Tomato Ketchup does actually work for this recipe. After all, it is nothing but a mixture of tomato, water, and sugar.
