    Fish Rice Recipe

This fish rice is the answer when I am in dire need of a comfort meal. It’s quick to make but is also packed with plenty of flavors, and my family ADORE it.

If you are wondering, Is it best to use fresh or frozen fish in making this dish? Here is my answer. Whatever you have at home, fresh or frozen fish will work just fine. Although I used fresh sea bass, in my opinion, the taste and texture of this recipe will not be affected if you use frozen fish.

I used long grain rice in making this recipe because it holds its shape and doesn't get sticky when stir-fried. However, you may also use short grain rice, white rice, brown rice or even wild rice.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Easy fish and rice dish; serve with Egyptian tahini sauce or Caramelized Onion and Mushrooms for a delicious meal.
    • One-pan dish for less washing-up.
    • A healthy dish for the whole family.
    • A complete meal contains tender fish, fluffy rice and fresh vegetables.

    Ingredients

All the ingredients needed for making the recipe.

“See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.”

    • Fish Fillets: I use sea bass fillets, but Cod, Snapper, Haddock or any white fish will work fine.
    •  Cornstarch: I use it to coat the fish before cooking to give it a crispy exterior.
    •  Salt & Ground black pepper: As per your preference and taste.
    •  Rice: I use jasmine rice, but you can use any type of long-grain rice, such as basmati.
    •  Vegetables: I use carrots, bell peppers, onion, garlic and spring onions.
    •  Red pepper flakes: For a spicy kick.
    •  Soy sauce: I use light soy sauce.
    •  Vegetable oil: Or any other cooking oil you use.

    How To Make Fish Rice?

cut your Fish into bite-size pieces and sprinkle with salt and pepper then toss in the cornstarch mixture.

First Step - Prepare The Fish: First, cut your Fish into bite-size pieces and sprinkle with salt and pepper (photo 1).
Now, take a bowl and mix cornstarch with ¼ cup of water.

In this cornstarch mixture, we’re going to toss the Fish. Keep turning the Fish until it is well coated, and place it in the fridge whilst you proceed to other tasks (photo 2).

Cook the rice in a pot.

Second Step - Cooking The Rice: The next thing we’re going to do is cook the rice. Before you cook, make sure you wash the rice. Then, add the rice in a small pot with 2 cups of water and half a teaspoon of salt.

Bring the rice to a boil, and continue cooking it until all the water has evaporated (photo 3).

Then, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes before turning off the heat entirely. The rice can take up to 15 minutes to cook, so while waiting, you can start prepping your vegetables (photo 4).

Peeled and chopped all the vegetables.

Third Step - Prepare Your Vegetables: To get your vegetables ready, you want to ensure they are peeled and chopped. So peel the garlic, onion and carrots, then dice all the veggies with the bell pepper (photo 5).

Fry the fish in the oil then Wipe the pan and saute the garlic.

Fourth Step - Frying the Fish: Heat the oil in a large pan, put the fish pieces in a single layer, and fry for 5-6 minutes on each side or until crispy and golden brown (photo 6).

Pro Tip: Use a fork to test if the Fish is fried completely. If the Fish flakes easily with a fork, it is done.

Fifth Step - Assemble The Dish: Wipe the pan with a paper towel once all the fish pieces have been fried.

Now, drizzle the pan with fresh oil, add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds (photo 7).

Add the onion, carrots and bell pepper and stir fry then add soy sauce and pepper flakes.

Add the onion, carrots and bell pepper and stir fry for 2-3 minutes (photo 8).

Next, add the red pepper flakes, salt, soy sauce and mix everything together. Then, push the vegetables aside with a wooden spoon and pour the beaten eggs into the clear side of the pan (photo 9).

Cook the egg then mix in the rice and cooked fish.

Cook the egg until firm, then use the wooden spoon to mix it with the veggies in the pan (photo 10).

Next, add the cooked rice to the pan and gently mix. Allow all seasoning to be absorbed well by the rice. Finally, add the fried Fish, and turn off the heat after mixing it well into the rice (photo 11).

That’s it! Garnish with spring onions and serve hot.
