    Mexican Shrimp Tacos Recipe

    This easy traditional Mexican shrimp tacos recipe is made with well-seasoned (spicy) shrimp, cabbage, feta cheese, and avocado, topped with sour cream cilantro sauce (the best taco sauce ever!). 

    These spicy shrimp tacos will be ready in less than 20 minutes, and all the family will love them.

    Mexican Shrimp Tacos Ingredients

    For the sour cream cilantro sauce

    • Spring onion: Also called green onion.
    • Cilantro: Use fresh cilantro.
    • Salt: A little goes a long way.
    • Lemon juice: You can replace it with fresh lime juice.
    • Garlic: For extra flavor.
    • Olive oil: Use extra virgin olive oil; you can also use avocado oil instead.
    • Sour cream: To give the sauce a creamy and delicious taste.

    Shrimp

    • Butter: To cook the shrimps.
    • Chilli powder: To give some heat to your shrimps. You can add also a pinch of cayenne pepper to make an extra spicy shrimp tacos.
    • Paprika, garlic powder, cumin and onion powder: To season the shrimps.
    • Shrimp: Also called Prawn. This recipe uses fresh shrimp (prawn).

    For the taco fillings

    • Taco shells: You can replace taco shells with either corn tortillas or flour tortillas.
    • Green cabbage: Shredded cabbage will and some crunchiness to your tasty tacos.
    • Red cabbage: For extra colors.
    • Avocado: Cut it into small pieces.
    • Feta cheese: Feta cheese on shrimp tacos is so delicious. You may use cotija cheese instead.

    How to make these Easy Mexican Shrimp Tacos?

    Steps of making the cilantro sour cream sauce.

    Step one - Make the cilantro sour cream sauce

    Put all the taco sauce ingredients in the food processor and mix until a smooth mixture forms. Transfer to a small mixing bowl and set aside.

    Mix shrimps with chilli powder, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika.

    Step Two - Cooke the shrimp

    Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel, transfer to a medium bowl and then mix it with chilli powder, ground cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Make sure the shrimp are coated well with the spices.

    Next, heat some butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer to the hot skillet and cook for 3 minutes on each side then turn off the heat.

    Step Three - Prepare the fillings

    Shred green and purple cabbage, dice the avocado, and crumble the feta cheese.

    Step Four- Assemble Tacos

    Go in this order. In each taco shell add: some green cabbage, purple cabbage, one tablespoon of the taco sauce, shrimps, some chopped avocado, and then sprinkle some feta crumbles. Add more sauce if you like.

    Tips and Variations

    • Use your favorite toppings: You can top these delicious Mexican shrimp tacos with ketchup, mayonnaise or mustard.
    • Also, can serve these tacos with sriracha sauce (if you like it spicy), salsa or with homemade guacamole. 
    • You may add any veggies you prefer such as onion, tomatoes or carrots.
    • For best results, use fresh ingredients.
    • You can season the shrimp with taco seasoning if you prefer.
    • Don't over-cook the shrimp, this is important because If over-cooked, they will have a rubbery texture.

    • You can add tomatoes, cucumber, radish, sweetcorn, or lettuce.
    • Top your tacos with some fresh pineapple.
    • red onion slices.
    • Any salsa you like such as mango salsa or pineapple salsa.

    Ingredients

    sauce

    • ½ cup spring onion , chopped
    • ½ cup cilantro
    • 1 lemon juice
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 2 cloves garlic
    • ¼ cup olive oil
    • ½ cup sour cream

    Shrimp

    • 300 g shrimp
    • 2 tablespoon butter
    • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
    • ½ teaspoon paprika
    • ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon cumin
    • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

    Taco Fillings

    • 16 taco shells
    • 2 cups green cabbage , shredded
    • 2 cups purple cabbage , shredded
    • 1 avocado , cut into small pieces
    • 150 g feta cheese , crumbled

    Instructions

    To make the sour cream cilantro sauce

    • Place all the auce ingredients in the blender or food processor and mix until a smooth mixture forms.
      ½ cup cilantro, 1 lemon juice, ½ teaspoon salt, 2 cloves garlic, ¼ cup olive oil, ½ cup sour cream, ½ cup spring onion

    To cook the shrimp

    • Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel then put them in a mixing bowl and mix with cumin, chilli powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Coat the shrimp well with the spices.
      300 g shrimp, ½ teaspoon chilli powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon cumin, ¼ teaspoon onion powder
    • After that, heat the butter on a skillet over medium heat and cook the shrimp for 3 minutes on each side.
      2 tablespoon butter

    To Prepare the fillings

    • Shred green and purple cabbage, dice the avocado, and crumble the feta cheese.

    To Assemble everything

    • In each taco shell add: some green cabbage, purple cabbage, one tablespoon of the taco sauce, shrimps, some chopped avocado, and then sprinkle some feta crumbles. Then add more sauce if you like. 
      2 cups green cabbage, 2 cups purple cabbage, 1 avocado, 150 g feta cheese, 16 taco shells
